HIGH FALLS FILM FEST UPDATE <\/span><\/p>\n

Here are several HFFF events that may be of interest those in the Rochester area. In addition to coordinating the Vicki Jenson special event, Animatus is involved with the children’s shorts program. Plus, Animatus intern Shannon Pytlak has a piece in the R.I.T. Shorts Program. If you’re a fan of the animated incarnations of Batman, Superman, and Batman Beyond, you may want to attend the panel discussion with Shirley Walker. <\/span><\/p>\n

AN EVENING WITH SHIRLEY WALKER
\nPresented in conjunction with the Catherine Filene Shouse Arts Leadership Program at the Eastman School of Music <\/span><\/p>\n

Shirley Walker broke industry ground in 1992 by becoming the first woman ever to score a film for a major studio. The film, MEMOIRS OF AN INVISIBLE MAN, featured not only Walker\u2019s music, but her orchestrations as well\u2014and she conducted the orchestra during the recording sessions, a Trifecta not many composers can match! A Daytime Emmy-winner for her scores for the Batman and Superman animated TV series, Walker composed the scores for BLACK STALLION, MAJORITY RULE, ESCAPE FROM L.A., TURBULENCE, and BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM. Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik will moderate the discussion. FREE. <\/span><\/p>\n

“The World We Want To Live In,” <\/span><\/p>\n

Nine girls (ages 10-13) from Rochester’s Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School worked with Animatus and the Animation Workshop to produce this piece about icons in women’s history. Funded by a grant from Citibank. <\/span><\/p>\n

“What Happened Was”
\nSix special stories brought to life by students from Rochester’s Charter School of Science and Technology and facilitators from the Museum of Kid’s Art (MOKA). Funded by a grant from Citibank.

FROM “STIMPY” TO “SHREK”: ANIMATION THROUGH VICKY JENSON’S LENS <\/span><\/p>\n

The director of SHREK, one of the most successful animated feature films of all time, will discuss her years as an art director and\/or production designer on projects including FERNGULLY, THE ROAD TO EL DORADO, and her upcoming Dreamworks film, SHARK TALE, as well as her work with Ralph Bakshi and John Kricfalusi on the visual style development for Mighty Mouse and Ren & Stimpy. Jenson will show clips of her work, as well as FAMILY TREE, a 36-minute live action film she directed, starring Harlan Williams, Talia Shire and Ethan Phillips. <\/span><\/p>\n
