Animatus News November 2000

Fred's alter ego

Greetings from Animatus!

Many thanks to those who made this year’s Ottawa festival so enjoyable.

It was a week full of fun and talent. The screenings seemed to offer something for everyone: from the works of Paul Fierlinger, Gene Deitch, and George Pal, to the “bebop” retrospectives and autopsy documentaries (don’t ask). We actually had great weather for the picnic, and I believe there were significantly less “doom and gloom” pieces in competition this year. It’s inspiring to see new and different animation techniques and trade ideas with others in the field.

I hope you get a kick out of the photo album we’ve assembled. After several nights of drunken celebration, I suspect the Cartier Hotel (or the Aristocrat across the street) will not forget us anytime soon. Be sure to visit our website to learn more about Derf and our latest creations, Su and Mo.
